As I reflect on Youth Sunday this past week, I am reminded again of what is always true: the young people of this congregation are not the church of someday. They are members of the body of Christ now. Youth Sunday was not a performance by young people for the rest of the church. It was a revelation of the body we already are called to be. Their voices belong in worship. Their questions belong in our theology. Their lives belong in our prayers. Their gifts belong in the ministry of the church. Their becoming is part of the life of the whole body.
I am deeply grateful for every youth who led, every parent and volunteer who helped make youth programming possible, every adult who has shown up for our youth this year, and every person who continues to make Highland a place where young people can grow in faith, honesty, joy, and love. The body of Christ is more fully itself when all its members are honored. Speaking of honor, how about Ainsley's reflection!? Thanks be to God for our youth!
