We’re not sure Highland’s building has ever been so teeming with music on a Friday night as it was on April 19. Friday Church was going on in the sanctuary with their musicians and the second floor was filled with choristers in grades Kindergarten through the Fifth Grade and choir teachers hosting our guest musician, composer, and conductor, Jeff Reeves! The choristers arrived at the end of their long school week ready to enjoy pizza to revive their tired bodies. Mr. Jeff began the evening with brain challenge exercises followed by images of pizza to help us understand the musical form of our anthem, Clap Your Hands. The choristers rehearsed for one fun-filled hour. The K-3rd grade slipped out with goodie bags in hand while the 4th and 5th graders stayed to rehearse their handbell anthem for Sunday worship. (Yes, the 4th and 5th graders also left with goodie bags!) Everyone young to old, loved Mr. Jeff’s energy, facial expressions, reading glasses, visuals on our smart board, and musical challenges.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 19, 6:00 PM when all of Highland’s Children’s Choirs, Cherub, Carol, Chorister, and Handbells, will present music learned this semester in their Spring Recognition Service. Enjoy a few pictures from our very special weekend with Jeff Reeves. You can view their musical leadership in worship for Sunday, April 21, 2024 on Highland’s YouTube and Facebook accounts.
