Welcome to Highland Baptist Church in Louisville.
We're a thinking, feeling, healing community of faith.
We believe that God loves everyone beyond reason. God’s love opens us to compassion, new questions, deeper understanding, radical inclusion, and causes our lives to be transformed. Jesus never drew lines in the sand marking people in-or-out of the club. Jesus teaches us how to love like God loves. So we follow Jesus.
SUNDAY MORNING and FRIDAY EVENING
Visiting a new church takes a lot of courage; so, know you are not alone. Our space is alive with the energy of individuals and families from all walks of life—various socio-economic backgrounds, an assortment of educational and vocational tracks, and lots of ideas about God, the meaning of life, and how to share Love.
Friday Church meets weekly at 7:00 p.m. in partnership with residents at Wayside Christian Mission and offers a more casual vibe. The band leads contemporary music, and friends have been known to share load of hugs during the passing of the peace time.
Our Sunday morning rhythms revolve around our worship services at 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. and our time of Bible study classes at 10:00 a.m. Worship is a bit more formal than many traditional Baptist churches. We incorporate some elements of high church tradition and use the cycles of the liturgical calendar to guide us. In other words, you’ll see ministers wearing robes and kids lighting candles. The organ and chancel choir guide the musical offerings that shape the liturgy (the spoken words) and sometimes the orchestra or handbell choirs play, too. While carefully planned, Sunday worship at Highland surely celebrates the mystery of our Creator.
BEYOND THE SANCTUARY
Church isn’t relegated to life in the sanctuary though, is it? Here at Highland, we maintain that the church is the people, the activity and movement of the community, the city, and the world in which we live. We welcome you to join us for the ins-and-outs and ups-and-downs of life’s journey.
