Fall Youth Retreat (November 18-20, 2016)

Each year, we take a weekend retreat with youth to a local retreat center in order to draw us closer to the heart of God and to one another as a community. Through fellowship, games, discussion, campfires, and worship, youth are able to connect with God and with the youth group in powerful ways.

Winter Lock-In (December 16, 2016)

Every December, we hold a Lock-In to celebrate with an all-night party with HBC youth and their friends. Lock-Ins are usually scheduled the evening of the last day of JCPS school before break. Activities at Lock-Ins have included ice skating, movies, game parks, and scavenger hunts.

HBC Got Skillz (January 29, 2017)

Every winter, Highland’s youth ministry hosts our annual church-wide talent show to benefit our summer mission trip. It is one of the best nights in Highland’s community as the entire congregation gathers together for a fun night of encouragement all in the name of missions!

 

House Party (Spring 2017)

Held every other year, House Party is our spring retreat where we spread out across the city of Louisville in member’s homes for Bible study, discussion, and fellowship. Saturday is spent in mission projects around the community followed by our annual video scavenger hunt around Louisville with a worship gathering at the church.

Youth-Led Worship (May 7, 2017)

Once a year, Highland’s youth take over the planning and leadership of Highland’s three worship services in order that they may give voice to their faith journeys and lead the congregation in praise, confession, proclamation, and response. Beginning after spring break, youth spend their time dreaming, planning, organizing, and practicing for their Youth-Led Worship in May. The youth at Highland are incredibly blessed to be a part of a congregation that supports them, loves them, and encourages them to bring their true selves to worship. Their leadership through ushering, praying, making music, giving testimonies, reading scripture, preaching, and receiving the offering help us encounter God in fresh ways.

Passport Youth Camp (June 18-24, 2017)

Every summer, Highland takes the youth group to attend Passport Youth Camp. Passport Youth Camp’s mission is “empower students to encounter Christ, embrace community, and extend grace to the world.” Highland has been taking youth to Passport Youth Camp since 1996. Passport always proves to be one of the best weeks of youth ministry that we have all year long. Youth have the opportunity to connect with God, bond with the youth group, meet youth from around the country, and have a lot of fun! High School Summer Mission Trip (July 8-15, 2017)

In the late summer, Highland’s high school youth take a week to press “pause” to their normal summer routine in order to offer up their gifts and leadership through a mission trip. In 2011, we helped lead Clue Camp at Metro Baptist Church in the heart of New York City.  In 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016, we helped lead a week of camp for the children at Touching Miami with Love.
