In the tradition of our historically Baptist sister churches, Highland Baptist Church regards the experience of baptism as a sacred expression of faith, an “outward sign of an invisible grace.” In August 2011, the congregation began conversations about baptism and membership, as Highland’s policies require believer’s baptism as a prerequisite for membership. For two years, Highland has wrestled with how to reconcile this treasured Baptist practice with our desire for inclusion and welcome, both positions we hold dear as a people. In order to equip our members more fully for this continued conversation and July 2013 vote, here are a series of documents from members and church leaders regarding baptism and membership.
