Dear Community of Faith,
We have decided to cancel all church events and gatherings from now through Sunday, March 15, in order to support the health of all those in our congregation and beyond and to honor Governor Beshear’s request. This cancellation includes Wednesday night dinner and activities, Sanctuary Choir, Holy Words Bible Study, Women’s Retreat, Friday Church, Youth Activities, Worship, Bible Study, and Orchestra.
We will regroup on Monday to discern our plans for next week, though we anticipate that we may need to cancel more gatherings as we collect more information. If you are scheduled for a ministry group meeting or other small group gathering next week, anticipate a word from leaders about whether or not your group will be able to meet in person or digitally.
Our commitment to cultivate a *safe* welcoming community of faith requires us to take seriously the physical well-being of all people. We make these decisions not out of fear but out of love for the common good. We will be in touch in the coming days with ways that we can all continue to discover, grow, and serve during this season. Though we will not gather in person, we trust that God’s Spirit abides with us and will continue to enable us to be transformed people joining the work of God.
We encourage all congregations to respect Governor Beshear’s request so that we might be united in caring for the people of our state. Surely God is with us as we seek to live without a spirit of fear but with a spirit of love for all.
May the peace of Christ be with each of you,
The Staff of Highland Baptist Church
