Each year, faith communities around the United States observe Children’s Sabbath. Sponsored by the Children’s Defense Fund, an advocacy group centered in Washington D.C. for at-risk children, the Children’s Sabbath takes place officially on the third weekend of October. However, many faith communities choose to hold space honoring Children’s Sabbath at varying points throughout the year. This year, our observance of Children’s Sabbath takes place within the context of our month-long focus on the Courage to Imagine.
This Sunday, February 17, Highland will observe the Children’s Sabbath in all three morning worship services by thinking and reflecting on the gifts that are the children in our community, while also remembering intentionally that all children in our world are gifts from God to be honored and cherished and advocated for. Our Choristers Choir (K-5th grade) will share music that they have been learning on Wednesday evenings, and the sermon will take the form of a Godly Play story. Please make plans now to join us for this unique service of worship!
