The Look of Love
How does Jesus’ love look different than Valentine’s Day love? Or I “Heart” Mountains love? Or other traditional views of love? During Lent (the six weeks leading to Easter) we will explore how Jesus shows us the look of Love and how we can appropriate it more fully in our daily lives.
At Highland, we observe the rhythms of the season of Lent through worship, communal practice, and individual disciplines. Read more below about our practices of Lent.
We are grateful to Highland member Daniel Horton for his artwork that will guide us through the Lenten season!
Lenten Daily Devotions and Resources
The Adult Education Ministry Group has selected a Lenten daily devotional entitled, A Wondrous Love, by Henri Nouwen and C. S. Lewis, which will be available in the Sanctuary on Ash Wednesday. Our hope is that this devotional, along with daily lectionary scripture passages, will help guide your time with God in prayer, silence, solitary walks, journaling, and reflection. Daily Lenten scriptures can be found at http://www.crivoice.org/lent1.html.
Passport Camps has created a free Lenten activity calendar, written by David Haun of Fredericksburg Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Virginia. This Lenten calendar provides specific “Lenten actions” to make Lent a time of faith and action, not just a time to reflect. We hope that it will be meaningful to you and your family during this season.
Engaging the Questions of Lent
With the addition of the white board to our Commons space just outside the Sanctuary, we have the capacity to respond to worship as a community of faith. Throughout the season of Lent, look for a new question for reflection each week on this board that calls all of us to make real the Lenten journey of faith. All are welcome and encouraged to write their responses to these questions throughout the Lenten season.
