Building Love Renovation Update – Week of June 29

This week’s Building Love work is happening mostly in places that you will not see or notice until our project is completed. Currently, our teams are focused heavily on our baptistry area. Light fixtures for the space have been ordered and will hopefully be installed this week. After installation of the light fixtures, there will be an above ceiling inspection. Once approved, drywall work and painting can begin.

In addition, the public sidewalk lining Cherokee Road is nearing completion. However, the width of the entrance is a bit smaller than before construction, so work continues on finding stone to finish up the creation of the curb on either side of the new concrete walkway. Also outside, the ceramic tile has been laid on the patio, and work continues on grouting and finishing that space. Of course, showers and storms have already been somewhat of an issue this week which has delayed the completion of this tiled area.

In other areas of the building, painting continues—namely the central stairwell as you move toward Fellowship Hall. Work is also continuing as our architect confers with artist Bob Markert to determine how Fellowship Hall windows will be reinstalled.

After meeting with our architect and construction team on Monday afternoon, we have learned that construction related to our Building Love project will end within the next 3-4 weeks, no later than August 1! There may still be some landscaping and signage finishing touches to be completed as we approach the fall but the large majority of our project will be complete.

We are so grateful for everyone’s flexibility as we continue through this final portion of our season of renovation. – Renee Purtlebaugh
