While construction on the second phase of our Building Love renovation is wrapping up, Highland’s children and youth experienced their final Sunday of Bible study classes and worship care in our current space on the second floor of the education building. Different classrooms took field trips to see where their new rooms would be, including the Youth who trekked over to the Foree House to see their new home for this year. The 2nd and 3rd grade class took down bulletin boards of every shape and size, contributing to the work of preparation. And our 4th and 5th grade class created a beautiful wall-painting, creating life size images of themselves on the wall and noting ways they have loved and been loved, ways they have grown in Jesus’ love in this space we call Highland.
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, “the great move” took place. A team of movers have helped us carry furniture, boxes, bookshelves and supplies to their temporary homes. This period of clearing the second floor has been anticipated for many months now, and the move is nearly done!
Next Sunday, children, youth and young adult classes transition to our alternate spaces for the duration of the school year: young adults to the 2nd floor Foree House, and youth to the 1st floor Foree House. Highland’s children will be moving to first floor classrooms across from the offices, the preschool suite, the newly completed temporary classrooms in the Commons, and the Fireside Room.
We are grateful for everyone’s flexibility as we continue through this particular season of intense movement and preparation. While our weekly rhythms will be affected in the future by other phases of renovation work, this is perhaps the most laborious effort to date. Thank you for your patience as we navigate these waters together.
