The Green Season

Beginning June 10 and continuing through the end of November, the liturgical season we recognize in worship and in the rhythms of our church life is called Ordinary Time or the Green Season.  “Ordinary” does not mean “common” or “mundane,” but rather derivers from the word “ordinal” which means “counted time.”  The church counts this time that is sandwiched after Pentecost Sunday beginning with Trinity Sunday and ending with Christ the King Sunday, which is the last Sunday before the beginning of Advent.

During the Green Season, the Sanctuary banners, sacred cloths, and ministerial stoles are changed to green, and lectionary readings tell the stories of Jesus that evoke the full picture of his ministry on earth.
