We invite all to join us as we walk the Holy road to Easter together this week as a community of faith! The special services of Holy Week become our combined experience of these important marks in the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus, giving us concrete images of the transforming Love he expressed. Please join us in these Holy Week and Easter gatherings! Details about the services, parking, and directions are listed below.
April 4, Holy Wednesday Contemplative Service, 6:30 p.m., Sanctuary
Experience the Divine through singing, readings, prayer, and silence, based on the Taize Prayer service. Musical leadership will be provided by two local musicians, David Gambrell, guitarist, and Mike Schroeder, mandolinist. The Spiritual Formation Ministry Group has planned this service of worship.
April 5, Maundy Thursday Service, 7:00 p.m., Fellowship Hall
From the Latin root word mandatum novum (“new commandment”), Maundy Thursday provides a time for meditation on the story of Jesus and his betrayal. The time together is a simple, moving service of communion, hymns, scripture, and hand washing, which will prepare us for the gripping Good Friday Service.
April 6, Tenebrae Service, 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary
The Service of Darkness based on the ancient word Tenebrae (“shadows”) commemorates Christ’s suffering and crucifixion through music and scripture. The service culminates in the removal of the Christ candle. Highland’s Sanctuary Choir provides the music for the service.
April 8, Easter Sunday Worship Services, 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., Sanctuary
Join us for this time of celebration and joy as the sanctuary resounds with singing, choirs, and instruments. The Lord is risen! He is risen, indeed! Hope and joy burst into our world as we see the power of Love over hate, Life over death. There will be no Adult Bible Study classes on Easter morning, but there will be coffee and light refreshments in Fellowship Hall at 9:40 a.m. for those who wish to fellowship with their class members. All preschool, children, and youth classes will meet at their regular time.
Childcare is provided for birth through pre-kindergarten for all Lenten activities.
