Highland Baptist Church is a community of faith in the free-church tradition of Christian denominations. While the church chooses to affiliate with larger Baptist bodies, the decisions made by the congregation are locally autonomous and are a matter of this church’s particular interpretation of the Bible and the church’s doctrine. Highland’s choice of affiliations, partnerships, and support speak to our congregation’s commitments to our Baptist identity, our passion for justice and inclusion, our care for people on the margins of society, and our calling to be a progressive, evangelistic community of faith in Louisville. The views of any of these larger bodies with which Highland is affiliated should not be construed to represent fully the views of Highland or its members.
We affiliate with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship. Members of our ministerial staff are currently serving on state and national councils for both of these affiliate organizations.
The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship is a fellowship of Baptist Christians and churches who share a passion for the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice. CBF’s mission is to serve Christians and churches as they discover and fulfill their God-given mission.
The Kentucky Baptist Fellowship is a fellowship of churches and individuals who share a commitment to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. KBF’s mission is to equip and empower Kentucky Baptist churches and Christians, cultivate partnerships, and engage in missions.
We partner with Ridgewood Baptist Church, Metro Baptist Church, and the Eglise Evangélique au Maroc (the Protestant Church of Morocco).
Highland is in an extended partnership with Ridgewood Baptist Church in southwest Jefferson County in order to enhance and support their progressive voice of faith to this part of our city through ministerial and volunteer leadership. Steven Schafer, Associate Pastor to Ridgewood, pastors Ridgewood’s congregation and serves partially on Highland’s ministerial staff. For more information about Highland’s partnership with Ridgewood, click here.
Highland seeks to partner nationally with other Baptist churches that share our theological commitments and vision for ministry. In 2012, Highland began a partnership with Metro Baptist Church, fostered through summer trips to New York City from our youth and young adults and vision-sharing between our ministerial staffs. For more information about Highland’s partnership with Metro, click here.
Through our affiliation with the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, Highland has partnered directly with the Eglise Evangélique au Maroc (EEAM), the Protestant Church of Morocco. Our specific relationships with this body center around care for sub-Saharan refugees who have made a home in the cities of Morocco. For more information about Highland’s partnership with the EEAM, click here.
We support a variety of people and faith-based organizations – locally, nationally, and internationally – who share our vision to serve the world in Love. Members of our ministerial staff are currently serving on local and national councils for several of these organizations. The list of people and organizations that Highland supports is as follows:
Steve Clark and Annette Ellard (CBF field personnel serving the Burmese refugee community in Louisville)
