Ministry Groups

Members of Highland are encouraged to find a place of ministry in the church, and a great place to find your calling to the Work of Love is through a ministry group. Ministry Groups are intentionally given that name, because members of these groups plan, vision, execute, budget for, and provide ministry to the church. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend and participate in most ministry groups, although non-members cannot vote on items brought before the group.

At Highland you don’t have to wait to be asked to join a ministry group! If you have a desire, a passion, or a calling for a particular group, just talk to one of the ministry staff members, and we will be happy to help you get involved.

Ministry Groups for the 2011-2012 church year are as follows: 

Adult Education Ministry Group

Provides Christian education and spiritual growth opportunities for all adults.

Children’s Ministry Group

Coordinates all phases of the church’s ministry with children.

Church Fun and Fellowship Ministry Group

Strengthens church fellowship, health and witness through a program of recreation and fellowships.

Committee on Ministry Groups

Coordinates the enlistment of persons for all other ministry groups.  Members of this committee are chosen by the Ministry Planning Team.

Communications Ministry Group

Engages all people via a myriad of communication methods with God’s transforming love.

Community & Denomiational Relations Ministry Group

Envisions, coordinates, and oversees all programs for domestic missions.

Faithful Giving Ministry Group

Promotes Christian stewardship among the church body through education and motivation, including time, talent and finances.

Finance Ministry Group

Guides the church in financial planning and budgeting.

Friday Church Ministry Group

Coordinates, plans and implements all elements pertaining to Friday worship.

History Ministry Group

Maintains and organizes materials that are pertinent to the history of the church.

Hospitality Ministry Group

Promotes the ministry of hospitality in the church through the welcoming of guests and providing various church receptions and fellowships.

International Ministries Ministry Group

Envisions, coordinates, and oversees all programs to international mission causes.

Justice Ministry Group

Explores, oversees and promotes engagement in acts of justice as a congregation.

New Member Ministry Group

Assists in the full integration of new members into the life of the church.

Outreach/Evangelism Ministry Group

Provides education and opportunities for sharing God’s transforming love in ways that are consistent with the tone and spirit of Highland Baptist Church.

Personnel Ministry Group

Assists the church in matters related to employee administration.

Preschool Ministry Group

Coordinates all phases of the church’s ministry with preschoolers.

Property and Space Ministry Group

Assists the church in space planning and property management.

Ridgewood Partnership Ministry Group

Cultivates a dynamic link between Highland Baptist Church and Ridgewood Baptist Church.

Senior Adults Ministry Group

Promotes ministry and fellowship among the church’s senior adults.

Spiritual Formation Ministry Group

Evaluates and plans Christian spiritual formation for all age levels of the church.

Technology Ministry Group

Assesses the technical needs of the church and assists in maintaining and supporting the technology within the church.

Transportation Ministry Group

Coordinates activities and/or opportunities for transportation and for outreach.

True Colors Ministry Group

Provides welcome, support and spiritual education for the LGBTQ community both within the church and in our city.

Trustees Ministry Group

Oversees the administrative tasks of the church.

Wedding Ministry Group

Provides support and education for couples who seek to be married at Highland. 

Worship Ministry Group

Helps to coordinate, plan, and implement the elements of worship.

Young Adults Ministry Group

Works to provide space for community, growth, and service for the young adults of the church.

Youth Ministry Group

Coordinates the different phases of the church’s ministry with youth.
